Happy Lunar New Year! Welcome to my fourth published 5e DnD adventure, written and created for High Rollers DnD!
Xīnnián kuàilè! Happy New Year! It’s time to celebrate the first moon of the year, and the Jade Emperor has invited you to his great banquet...but mischief is afoot, and it's up to you to restore order to the Royal Court and ensure the Reunion Meal can go ahead!
This is a very special project to me. I am half Chinese-Malaysian and, growing up, LNY was the biggest celebration of the year for my family. Thanks to the global pandemic, our celebrations have sadly been put on hold, so I decided to write this scenario to share my love and joy for this festival with you all. I'm also thankful to my friends on High Rollers for enthusiastically encouraging me to run this for them; it feels a little bit like our own LNY party!
It's been important to me to write this scenario with authenticity and accuracy. I've included explanations of the traditional ways we (as a Chinese Malaysian family) celebrate LNY, and the Chinese mythology behind why Lunar New Year is celebrated. Please note that there are many variations in how East/South East Asian people celebrate Lunar New Year, but if I have made a glaring mistake, let me know!
I hope you enjoy it, please feel free to contact me with any feedback or memorable moments from your running of this encounter. Gōng xǐ fā cái!
Post includes: The Jade Emperor's Invitation scenario - Map Tokens for Roll20 - Maps for VTTs. Please message me if you need any alternate versions of the maps.
